21 women honored for completing entrepreneurial training

The Inland Empire Women’s Business Center at Cal State San Bernardino recently honored 21 women for successfully completing the CitiBank “It’s Your Time Program: An Entrepreneurial Training Series for Women.”

To complete the CitiBank sponsored program, the participants attended at least 10 workshops through the IEWBC and wrote a comprehensive business plan. A panel of judges then scored the business plans, with points awarded for thoroughness, completeness and accuracy.

First place went to Sally Fam of Rancho Cucamonga, AID Innovate; second place to Linda Pobuda of Corona, The Virtual Ledger; and third place to Karyn Chapman of San Bernardino, Guardian Tax and Business Services. They were awarded prize packages cumulatively valued at more than $17,144 to help them start their businesses.

The event was held June 28 at the California Theatre. San Bernardino County Fifth District Supervisor Josie Gonzalez delivered the evening’s keynote address during the event, which included the participants sharing their experiences. The 21 women who completed the program were honored by the IEWBC with a certificate of completion and given proclamations from California 32nd District Assemblywoman Gloria Negrete McLeod.

The honorees were: Angelica Limon of Fontana, Carol Lumsden of Upland, Catherine Lopez-Brown of Highland, Cherize Vessup of Redlands, Christina Slay of San Bernardino, Fiona Lewis of Loma Linda, , Kathleen Predmore of Redlands , Linda Vick of San Dimas, Lisa Mosely of Moreno Valley, Manjita Patel of Victorville, Maria Ornelas of Fontana, Mary Johnson of Highland, Michele Thomas of Riverside, Nicole Miller of Phelan, Padmapriya Kedharnath of Riverside, Rashida Tinkshell Fontana, Sandra Maiden of Rialto and Tolanda McKinney of Moreno Valley.

The IEWBC is a program of the Inland Empire Center for Entrepreneurship at California State University, San Bernardino in partnership with the U.S. Small Business Administration. The IEWBC provides business counseling, training, and mentoring designed for and targeted to woman business owners. The program provides targeted services to Latina business owners, currently the fastest growing group of women-owned businesses in the country, by providing services in English and Spanish.

The Inland Empire Women’s Business Center is located at the IECE Business Resource Center, 202 E. Airport Drive, Suite 100, just off Hospitality Lane, in San Bernardino. IEWBC hours of operation are Monday-Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday by appointment only.
