Paul Kirwan, Assistant Professor of Entrepreneurship and Strategic Management, together with Joris Heuven from the University of Twente, the Netherlands presented their current research on new venture creation at the Babson College Entrepreneurship Research Conference (BCERC) on June 11th at Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Lausanne, Switzerland. BCERC is the premier entrepreneurship research conference in the world.

Professor Kirwan’s presented the paper “Prior Business Experience and Start-up Success: The Moderating Role of Helpers Explored.” The paper addresses (1) the role of prior functional business experience (human capital) in explaining start-up success (2) the role of social capital in the context of nascent entrepreneurship and (3) the specific interactions between social and human capital in explaining start-up success.
